Hodgson Physiotherapy Services Ltd has been offering High Quality Physiotherapy to Patients in the Wakefield area since 1997. Mike Hodgson qualified in 1991 at Bradford Hospitals School of Physiotherapy with 2 Distinctions as a Graduate Diploma in Physiotherapy (Grad Dip Phys).

This entitles him to be registered as a State Registered Physiotherapist (S.R.P) through the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and this allows him to practice within the NHS and as a Private Practitioner. To remain a practising Physiotherapist Mike maintains a regular program of continued professional development and can be called upon by the HCPC at any time to prove his continued competence to practice.

Mike is also a Member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy. This is the governing body of all Physiotherapists and this gives both full Insurance cover and assures the patients that they are being treated by a fully qualified Physiotherapist.

Only Practitioner’s who have completed the fully accredited training courses are allowed to call themselves a Physiotherapist and again guarantees the high level of training and competence

He currently receives referrals from;

  • All G.P practices within the Wakefield Health Authority area (any practice with a WF postcode), working with Novus Health Ltd.

  • Wakefield Metropolitan District Council

  • Barnsley Metropolitan District Council
  • One Health (for post operative care following spinal surgery or joint replacement)

Mike heads a team of 14 Physiotherapist’s supported by a full admin / reception team. The Sandal Clinic is the base for seeing local NHS patients and all Private patients (including Occupational Health Referrals).

NHS patients are also currently seen in a further 30 locations across the Wakefield Health Authority region, predominantly within GP practices.

What is a Physiotherapist?

A Physiotherapist is a person who is qualified to a degree level in the rehabilitation of patients, affected by injury, illness or disability. The physiotherapist may use manual therapy, education, exercise, postural advice, and electrotherapy and guided self-management to facilitate recovery and promote independence.

What is a Musculoskeletal condition?

Musculoskeletal disorders are injuries or pain affecting the joints, ligaments, tendons, nerves of the body and any structures that support the limbs and spine.

What conditions do Physiotherapists treat?

  • Spinal conditions such as Neck or Back, with or without referred pain / symptoms
  • All Peripheral Joint problems including; ligament sprains, muscle strains, tendinopathies, or bursitis.
  • Joint Arthritis pain eg OA Knee / Hip joint
  • Pain as a result of Postural / Work place issues
  • Post Fracture rehabilitation
  • Following Orthopaedic / Spinal surgery
  • For any MSK condition for long term management when surgery id deemed inappropriate
  • Our service is an Adult MSK service, but 16-18 years are eligible if accompanied by a parent / appropriate adult to give consent.
